Planning submission for Oakley House, Luton

The development proposals are for the former Whitbread Brewery site, and replace a redundant three-storey office block, car parking and the former Royal Oak public house with 26 family houses and 39 apartments designed to achieve Nationally Described Space Standards.

The scheme would be built using ‘Luton Greys’, the characteristic brick of the region, combined with buffs and reds. A new street frontage would be created at the prominent junction between Oakley Road and Addington Way.

The homes are set within landscaped communal areas with each house having a private rear garden and each apartment a balcony. The layout allows for the retention of most of the existing boundary vegetation and for the inclusion of a Sustainable Urban Drainage System. Photo-voltaic panels on the roofs of the apartment blocks would reduce CO2 emissions by 10%.
