In August 2020 Vincent+Gorbing were commissioned by Kier Construction Eastern & Midlands on behalf of NHS Foundation Trust to prepare and submit a detailed planning application for a new 54-bed adult acute care mental health unit within the Lister Hospital Health Campus in Stevenage.
This development sought to address the need for a new facility to address the demand for bed provision in the area and the design included many benefits for both staff and patients. The site had a number of design and planning constraints including the natural topography and power lines which cross the site. As part of the planning application process, Vincent+Gorbing led pre-application discussions with the Council and other statutory stakeholders to ensure the smooth determination of the planning application.
The planning application was submitted to Stevenage Borough Council in the early part of 2022, which culminated in a recommendation for approval from the Case Officer and a resolution to grant permission by the planning committee in July 2022. Following detailed negotiation regarding the Section 106 agreement, the decision was issued on 4th September 2023.
