St John’s is an Independent Day School for Boys Aged 3-13 on the northern outskirts of London. In 2020 the School celebrated it’s centenary and it has been located in its current premises, a former mansion with surrounding parkland in Northwood, since the 1950s.
Vincent + Gorbing have provided planning advice to the School since 2010. The site is constrained by its location in the Metropolitan Green Belt such that every proposal for new facilities is carefully scrutinised by the Council. It is also partly designated for its nature conservation interest and is accessed via a narrow lane which it shares with a number of residential properties.
Planning permissions achieved for the School have varied from conversion of a gatehouse into staff apartments, a treehouse and, in 2019, a new three court Sports Hall. We subsequently discharged all necessary conditions and the hall was completed in 2021.
