University of Hertfordshire identified the need for a new Student Zone, on their 2020 Vision estates masterplan. The scheme comprised a new building and refurbishment of several existing linking buildings. The objective was to locate various student services departments into one area with a central concourse.
Facilities which were accommodated include: student centre offices, careers and placements offices, student union offices, enrolment area, retail spaces, medical centre, pharmacy, occupational health offices and coffee area with an open concourse.
The new building incorporates an exposed concrete structure with exposed coffered slabs and printed glass facades. It also features a green roof and a hybrid ventilation system which utilises the thermal mass of the structure to eliminate air conditioning.
This scheme has won RICS award in 2016.
