Student Admin Offices, University of Hertfordshire
The three projects included both Interior Architecture and Interior Design from RIBA Stage 3 – 4. The Vincent+Gorbing team worked positively with Mechanical & Electrical Engineers and an FF&E Procurement Company.
The design concept was to achieve three open plan, light, modern working spaces for the student administration staff which included breakout areas, meeting spaces and a welcoming reception area for students.
The short programme was a challenge, there were 3 months between the initial site visit, and starting construction works on site in January 2020, with the Christmas break in-between. The project first started in November 2019 and completed after Easter in 2020.
The choice of the bright colour palette was to complement the University’s logo colours for the Student Hubs and to be inspiring whilst creating inviting spaces. The feature open-slatted timber partition walls and the glazed screens divide the spaces for private meeting and break-out areas while still having the feeling of openness and flexibility.
The UoH Project Manager commented; “They have gone down extremely well, the client is very complimentary of the spaces and we (University of Hertfordshire) should be using this as a benchmark for future refurbishments.”
