Mark Chandler, Director

MA(RCA), DIP Arch, RIBA

Mark is a Chartered Architect and a qualified Interior Designer. He became a Director of Vincent and Gorbing in 1998.

His expertise encompasses office and industrial developments, leisure and retail buildings, civic and educational buildings and interior design. Mark’s special interest includes environmental design and the innovative use of materials.

He also leads business development and marketing aspect of the practice.

Andrew Rayner, Technical Director

Chartered Architectural Technologist, MCIAT

Andrew is a Chartered Architectural Technologist and he became a Technical Director of Vincent and Gorbing in 2001. He has worked as a project manager in a wide range of projects across all sectors.

His particular responsibility is in technical co-ordination across the office and in diverse portfolio of commercial and educational projects.

Jo Grant, Finance Director

Jo is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of post-qualification experience.  Jo joined Vincent and Gorbing in 2020 as the finance manager and became a director in 2023.  She has a background in corporate banking within the Construction and Real Estate sectors and latterly as FD of a leading Hertfordshire law firm.

Jo is responsible for the practice’s financial management, corporate governance and HR.

Claire Newbury, Associate Director

Claire is a chartered Town Planner and joined Vincent and Gorbing as a Senior Associate in 2017.

Claire has worked mainly in the private sector, although has had some public sector experience early on in her career.

She has a comprehensive understanding of planning issues, and has worked on a wide variety of projects during her 15 years as a planning professional, including strategic land, residential, mixed use town centre projects, retail, commercial, education and leisure schemes.

Claire is experienced in providing detailed planning advice and working with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver large schemes, including EIA development.

Stephen Chown, Associate Director

BA(Hons), Dip. Arch., RIBA

Stephen is a registered architect and a chartered member of the RIBA who joined the practice in 2007 and was appointed as Associate in 2014.

He has been a key member of the team on a number of projects from conception through to completion. His most notable work includes a number of projects completed for the University of Hertfordshire.

Stephen is experienced in all aspects of the architect’s role, with particular responsibilities for concept design, design development and co-ordinating projects for detail planning applications and tender submissions.

Nadine Cleland, Associate Director

Nadine has more than 18 years’ experience in private practice having previously worked for Haverstock, Curl La Tourelle and DWW Design. Nadine is well versed in delivering a wide range of residential and education developments, from concept stage through to completion and following all main routes of procurement. At Vincent+Gorbing, Nadine is an Associate Director for both market sale and affordable housing developments for new and existing clients.

Nadine also leads the practice’s Quality Assurance and professional accreditation.

Gary Tew, Senior Associate

HND (Construction)

Gary is a qualified Architectural Technologist who was appointed an Associate in 2004.

He has been working as a Senior Project Manager in all sectors of the industry. Gary has a wealth of experience in design and project management of a wide range of construction projects. He also maintains a keen interest in modern technologies and construction procurement methods.

Gary is also responsible for the Architectural CAD Software, CAD Standards and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Jonathan Burstow, former Director

BA(Hons), Dip Arch, MArch (USA), RIBA

Jonathan is a Chartered Architect who brings to the company his international experience from the UK, Canada and the USA. Having been a Director of Vincent+Gorbing for 13 years he has now reduced his working week and continues to support the practice at senior level.

His expertise includes affordable and private sector housing, site planning and key worker and student accommodation. He has a particular interest and knowledge in sustainability and modern methods of construction.

Martin Friend, Consultant

BSc(Hons), Masters in Town Planning, MRTPI

Martin is a Chartered Town Planner, with longstanding experience of advising private and public clients on a variety of planning matters. He became a Director of Vincent and Gorbing in 2000.

He has achieved Planning consents on numerous strategic housing and commercial schemes and has acted as professional witness on a number of complex Planning cases, working alongside leading Planning barristers. He also appears at Local Development Framework Examinations.

Claire Bennett, Architect

BA(Hons), DipArch, MArch, RIBA

Claire has recently passed her professional practice examination and is now a qualified chartered architect. She is a valuable member of our practice who has brought extensive experience in educational, residential and community projects.

Claire is very proficient in many computer packages: AutoCAD, Revit 2017, Photoshop, Vectorworks, Sketchup, Illustrator, InDesign, Publisher and NBA Create.

Nicholas Keens, Senior Architectural Technologist

HNC

Nicholas is a Senior Technologist at the practice and he joined Vincent and Gorbing in 2001.

He is very experienced in resolving detailed technical problems and enjoys developing his CAD techniques using the latest software to produce very accurate and detailed construction drawings. He also successfully uses 3D modelling software to produce life-like computer generated images for presentation visuals.

His particular skills and expertise is using Revit software and BIM.

Ian Drewery, Senior Architectural Technologist

HND (Arch Tech)

Ian is a Senior Architectural Technologist, whose specific expertise includes technical design, coordination and project management.

Ian has extensive experience and knowledge of social housing standards, including Lifetime Homes and Code for Sustainable Homes and is regularly engaged in projects specialising in residential, commercial, educational and community building types.

Patrick Daly, Associate Planner

BA(Hons), MSc, MRTPI

Having previously worked in both public and private spheres, Patrick’s experience extends to working on a variety of complex projects, predominantly in London and the South East, consistently delivering sound strategic advice and securing planning permission for a wide range of clients. His experience has focussed on warehousing, education and residential development as well as town centre and leisure schemes.

At Vincent+Gorbing his work will continue in securing consents for self-storage units, housing developments and schools, as well as care facilities and securing favourable allocations for new housing developments in Local Plans via written and in-person representations.

Richard Lewis, Senior Associate

BA(TP), MA(UD), MRTPI

Richard is a Chartered Town Planner and Urban Designer. He became Senior Associate at Vincent and Gorbing in 2013. He brings a wealth of experience in town planning and urban design in both public and private sectors.

Richard is experienced in all aspects of town planning and urban design, with specialist expertise in master planning, environmental statements, planning applications and appeals, development control management, visual impact assessments, listed buildings and conservation.

Joanne Harcourt, Architectural Assistant

BA(Hons), RIBA Part 1

Joanne completed degrees in both Interior Architecture and Architecture and joined the practice in 2006.

She has experience in residential, commercial, educational, leisure and community building types and a good knowledge and experience of social housing standards, including Design & Quality, Lifetime Homes and Code for Sustainable Homes.

Joanne works on a broad spectrum of projects including 3D modelling, presentation renderings and interior design, including selection of finishes and preparing presentation sample boards and visuals.

Howard Absolon, Senior Planning Technician

Howard Absolon, Senior Planning Technician

Howard was appointed as a Senior Planning Technician at Vincent & Gorbing in 1988. He is responsible for the provision of graphics support to the planning team.

In addition to producing Planning drawings and exhibition material, Howard is also responsible for the day to day maintenance of the company’s IT infrastructure in his role as IT Manager.

Hannah Philp, Planning Assistant

MA

Hannah has a MA in Town Planning and joined Vincent and Gorbing in 1997.

She assists the Planning team and has a wide knowledge of Planning projects. Hannah is experienced in application preparation, managing consultants and monitoring application progress and specialises in community consultation.

Zhengyang Zhao, Architectural Assistant

BA(Hons), MArch

Having moved to the UK with his family from Shandong, China in 2011, Zhengyang went on to study Architecture at the University of Liverpool. He graduated in July 2022 with the degree of Master of Architecture, MArch.

As a keen allotmenteer Zhenyang enjoys growing his own food in his spare time, as well as travelling and exploring places further afield.
