Technical design for York House, St.Albans

Having achieved a Planning Consent from St Albans City and District Council on 27 September 2021, Vincent+Gorbing’s appointment by Glencar has been extended to lead the technical design team for the construction of York House. Work on site is expected to start in the spring of 2022 with a completion in the summer of 2023.

The site of a former car showroom and forecourt will be redeveloped to provide a four storey block of 25 affordable apartments, that will be managed by Hightown Housing Association. The development is almost unique in the district at the present time in delivering 100% affordable homes to a brownfield site. Local councillors recognised the benefits that would be brought to the area to improve it, rather than diminish it.

The apartments have been designed to Nationally Described Space Standard and the majority enjoy good size balconies or patios. The block will comprise 16 one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom apartments, with some offered as shared ownership, with the remainder being rented.
